Could new arena bring back NBA and possibly bring an NHL team to Seattle?

Talk of Seattle building a third major stadium just south of Safeco Field is looking more and more prominent. Third party investors have been working behind the scenes for months now trying to get plans to get a new stadium built that meets the NBA's standards. Even if we break ground for a new stadium in Seattle, the question then becomes what team are we going to get? Some people speculate about the Sacramento Kings coming up here, others are talking about the New Orleans Hornets. Either way, we are going to be stuck with a team that isn't very competitive. Although I wouldn't mind going to watch former Husky Isaiah Thomas play with Sacramento, I have never been much of an NBA fan. Maybe that will change this time around if we do end up getting a team.

The new stadium will dual as both a basketball stadium and a hockey arena. My interest is more in the NHL team that we are rumored to get. Most speculate that the team to come up to Seattle will be the Phoenix, Coyotes. I could care less which team we get, I am just looking forward to having a team to go watch. I've never really been into watching hockey on TV, but I think that I could get into it if we had a team right here in Seattle! As for team names I have heard people come up with a lot of names, but the one I like the most is the Seattle Chinooks. To go along with that the arena could be nicknamed "The Hatch." Trust me, It'll catch on. For now though, all we can do is hope that everything works out and we can get not only the NBA back in Seattle but also welcome an NHL team.

  1. I like the fact that we could have an NHL team! It's also very smart in these times that public funds aren't in the plans! Hope they can raise the funds!,

Wonder if the fan base for the mariners will remain even with there poor performance in the past years
